Description

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls soaked in a rich tres leches mixture and topped with a creamy frosting, combining the classic flavors of tres leches cake with warm cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt, then gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  10. Whisk together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream.
  11. While the rolls are still warm, slowly pour the tres leches mixture evenly over them so they soak it up.
  12. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then spread over the rolls.
  13. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Allow the rolls to rest for 10–15 minutes after adding the milk mixture so it fully absorbs.
  • Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor.
  • These rolls can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat slightly before serving for the best texture.
