Description
A rich and luxurious Italian-style hot chocolate that is thick, creamy, and intensely chocolatey, similar to a warm chocolate pudding served in a cup.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 oz dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream or chocolate shavings for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook while stirring continuously.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate and continue stirring until melted and smooth.
- Cook for another 3–5 minutes until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired.
- Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
- If the drink becomes too thick, whisk in a little warm milk.
- For a spiced version, add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder.
- This hot chocolate is traditionally very thick compared to regular hot cocoa.
