Description
French Chocolate Flan is a rich and creamy dessert with a silky chocolate custard texture, combining the classic smoothness of flan with deep chocolate flavor for an elegant treat.
Ingredients
- 500 ml whole milk
- 200 ml heavy cream
- 150 g dark chocolate, chopped
- 3 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 100 g sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Caramel sauce for base (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 160°C (320°F).
- Heat milk and cream in a saucepan until warm (do not boil).
- Add chopped chocolate and stir until melted and smooth.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, and salt until combined.
- Slowly pour warm chocolate mixture into the eggs while whisking to temper.
- If using caramel, pour a thin layer into ramekins or baking dish.
- Pour chocolate custard mixture over the caramel.
- Place ramekins in a baking dish and fill with hot water halfway up the sides (water bath).
- Bake for 35–45 minutes until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
- Cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for best flavor.
- Do not overbake to maintain a creamy texture.
- Chill thoroughly for clean slicing or unmolding.
- Serve with whipped cream or fresh berries.
