Description
Flying Dutchman Burger is a low-carb, protein-packed burger featuring juicy beef patties layered with melted cheese and onions instead of a traditional bun, inspired by a popular fast-food secret menu item.
Ingredients
- 2 large beef patties (about 150 g each)
- 2–4 slices cheddar or American cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced into thick rounds
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: mustard or burger sauce
Instructions
- Season beef patties with salt and pepper.
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
- Place cheese slices on patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- In the same pan, add butter and cook onion slices until softened and slightly caramelized.
- Assemble by placing one onion slice as the base, followed by a beef patty, cheese, another patty, and topping with another onion slice.
- Add optional mustard or sauce if desired.
- Serve hot without a bun.
Notes
- Use large onion slices to act as sturdy “buns”.
- You can add pickles or grilled mushrooms for extra flavor.
- Cook patties on high heat for a good sear.
- Great option for low-carb or keto diets.
