Description

Flying Dutchman Burger is a low-carb, protein-packed burger featuring juicy beef patties layered with melted cheese and onions instead of a traditional bun, inspired by a popular fast-food secret menu item.

Ingredients

  • 2 large beef patties (about 150 g each)
  • 24 slices cheddar or American cheese
  • 1 large onion, sliced into thick rounds
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: mustard or burger sauce

Instructions

  1. Season beef patties with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  3. Place cheese slices on patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  4. In the same pan, add butter and cook onion slices until softened and slightly caramelized.
  5. Assemble by placing one onion slice as the base, followed by a beef patty, cheese, another patty, and topping with another onion slice.
  6. Add optional mustard or sauce if desired.
  7. Serve hot without a bun.

Notes

  • Use large onion slices to act as sturdy “buns”.
  • You can add pickles or grilled mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Cook patties on high heat for a good sear.
  • Great option for low-carb or keto diets.
