Description
Sweet Potato Casserole is a classic comfort-food side dish made with creamy mashed sweet potatoes topped with a buttery, crunchy pecan topping, perfect for holidays and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened (for topping)
- 1 cup chopped pecans (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish.
- Boil sweet potatoes in a large pot until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes. Drain well.
- Mash sweet potatoes until smooth.
- Stir in granulated sugar, eggs, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Spread sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, softened butter, and chopped pecans until crumbly.
- Sprinkle topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
- Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until topping is golden and casserole is set.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Marshmallows can be used instead of pecan topping if preferred.
- Can be prepared ahead and baked before serving.
- Great for Thanksgiving and holiday meals.
