Description
Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a classic comfort dish made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory filling of ground meat, rice, and spices, then slowly simmered in a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 large head green cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully remove the core from the cabbage.
- Place the cabbage in boiling water and cook until leaves soften. Remove leaves gently and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and egg. Mix well.
- Place a portion of filling onto each cabbage leaf, fold in sides, and roll tightly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, and beef broth together.
- Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot and pour sauce mixture over them.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 60–75 minutes until cabbage is tender and filling is cooked.
- Serve hot with sauce spooned over the rolls.
Notes
- If cabbage leaves are thick, trim the rib slightly for easier rolling.
- Leftovers taste even better the next day.
- You can substitute ground lamb or turkey for variation.
