Description
A bold and flavorful Southern-style dish made with seasoned rice, tender shrimp, aromatic vegetables, and Cajun spices for a hearty one-pan meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 cups chicken or seafood broth
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 green onions, sliced
Instructions
- Season the shrimp lightly with salt and black pepper and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic, paprika, Cajun seasoning, thyme, and cayenne pepper (if using); cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in rice and toast for 1 minute.
- Pour in broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add shrimp on top of the rice, cover again, and cook for 5–7 minutes until shrimp are pink and cooked through.
- Fluff the rice gently, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and green onions before serving.
Notes
- Use medium or large shrimp for best texture.
- Adjust Cajun seasoning based on desired spice level.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 2 days.
