Description
Root Beer Baked Beans are a sweet and smoky comfort dish made with tender beans slow-baked in a rich sauce flavored with root beer, brown sugar, and savory seasonings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups canned baked beans (or navy beans), drained
- 1 cup root beer (not diet)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté onion until soft and translucent.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine beans, root beer, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in the sautéed onion and garlic.
- Transfer mixture to a baking dish.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 20–30 minutes until thick and bubbly.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use regular root beer for best flavor—diet will not caramelize properly.
- Can be made in a slow cooker on low for 4–5 hours.
- Great as a side dish for barbecues and picnics.
