Description

Root Beer Baked Beans are a sweet and smoky comfort dish made with tender beans slow-baked in a rich sauce flavored with root beer, brown sugar, and savory seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned baked beans (or navy beans), drained
  • 1 cup root beer (not diet)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Sauté onion until soft and translucent.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. In a large bowl, combine beans, root beer, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir in the sautéed onion and garlic.
  7. Transfer mixture to a baking dish.
  8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–30 minutes until thick and bubbly.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use regular root beer for best flavor—diet will not caramelize properly.
  • Can be made in a slow cooker on low for 4–5 hours.
  • Great as a side dish for barbecues and picnics.
