Description

Meatballs in Tomato Sauce is a classic comfort dish featuring juicy, seasoned beef meatballs gently simmered in a rich and savory tomato sauce, perfect for serving with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, parsley, salt, pepper, and oregano.
  2. Mix gently until just combined and form into medium-sized meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Brown meatballs on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir well and bring sauce to a gentle simmer.
  7. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with pasta, rice, or bread.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat to keep meatballs tender.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken if desired.
  • Sauce thickens more as it simmers.
