Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cups crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, parsley, salt, pepper, and oregano.
- Mix gently until just combined and form into medium-sized meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Brown meatballs on all sides, then remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well and bring sauce to a gentle simmer.
- Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve hot with pasta, rice, or bread.
Notes
- Do not overmix the meat to keep meatballs tender.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken if desired.
- Sauce thickens more as it simmers.
