Description
A savory and flavorful dish combining Italian sausage with bow tie pasta in a delicious sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy, based on preference)
- 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the bow tie pasta according to the package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, and heavy cream. Mix well and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), and salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the sausage sauce, tossing until the pasta is well coated.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier version, use hot Italian sausage and add more red pepper flakes.
- For a richer sauce, increase the amount of heavy cream or add a bit of cream cheese.
- Fresh basil can be used instead of dried basil for a fresher flavor.
