Description

A savory and flavorful dish combining Italian sausage with bow tie pasta in a delicious sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy, based on preference)
  • 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the bow tie pasta according to the package instructions, drain, and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, and heavy cream. Mix well and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), and salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.
  6. Combine the cooked pasta with the sausage sauce, tossing until the pasta is well coated.
  7. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, use hot Italian sausage and add more red pepper flakes.
  • For a richer sauce, increase the amount of heavy cream or add a bit of cream cheese.
  • Fresh basil can be used instead of dried basil for a fresher flavor.
