Description
Grilled Spiced Cabbage Steaks are thick slices of cabbage brushed with olive oil and coated in bold spices, then grilled until tender with crispy, caramelized edges. A flavorful and hearty plant-based side or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1 large green cabbage
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium heat (about 375°F / 190°C).
- Remove outer leaves of cabbage and slice into 1-inch thick steaks, keeping the core intact.
- In a small bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili flakes.
- Brush both sides of cabbage steaks generously with the spice mixture.
- Place cabbage steaks directly on the grill grates.
- Grill for 5–7 minutes per side until tender and nicely charred.
- Remove from grill and drizzle with fresh lemon juice.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a grill basket if the cabbage starts to fall apart.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle with grated Parmesan or drizzle with tahini sauce.
- Adjust spices to preference for more heat.
- Best served immediately while warm and slightly crisp.
