Description
French Onion Soup Burgers combine juicy beef patties with deeply caramelized onions, melted Swiss cheese, and rich savory flavors inspired by classic French onion soup, all served on toasted buns.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese
- 4 burger buns
- 1/4 cup beef broth
Instructions
- Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions, sugar, and salt; cook slowly for 20–25 minutes, stirring often, until deeply caramelized.
- Add beef broth and thyme to onions; simmer for 2–3 minutes until reduced. Set aside.
- Form ground beef into 4 patties and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook patties in a skillet or grill over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes per side.
- Brush patties with Worcestershire sauce and top with caramelized onions.
- Add cheese slices, cover, and cook until melted.
- Toast burger buns lightly.
- Assemble burgers with patties and extra onions; serve hot.
Notes
- Cook onions low and slow for best flavor.
- Serve with fries or a green salad.
- You can add a spoon of onion sauce to the bun for extra richness.
