Description
A comforting casserole combining ground beef, French onion soup, and rice for a savory, hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
- 1 cup white rice (uncooked)
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the uncooked rice to the skillet with the beef and onion mixture. Stir to combine. Then pour in the French onion soup and beef broth, stirring again to mix everything together.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
- If you’d like a cheesy topping, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole in the last 5 minutes of baking. Allow the cheese to melt and become bubbly.
- Once the casserole is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
- This dish pairs wonderfully with green vegetables or a side salad.
- For a creamier texture, you can add a bit of sour cream or cream cheese into the casserole before baking.
- Feel free to substitute the beef broth with chicken broth if preferred.
