Description
Crispy, golden-brown fish bites are tender chunks of white fish coated in seasoned batter and fried until crunchy on the outside and flaky inside, perfect as a snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 500 g white fish fillets (cod or haddock), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup cold sparkling water
- Oil for frying
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Pat fish pieces dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Gradually whisk in cold sparkling water to form a smooth batter.
- Heat oil to 175°C (350°F) in a deep pan.
- Dip fish pieces into batter, allowing excess to drip off.
- Carefully place into hot oil and fry in batches for 3–4 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges or dipping sauce.
Notes
- Do not overcrowd the pan while frying.
- Use cold sparkling water for extra crispiness.
- Best served immediately for maximum crunch.
