Description

Classic Calzone is a folded Italian pizza filled with savory meats, rich cheeses, and marinara sauce, baked until golden and crispy on the outside with a warm, melty center.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup cooked ground beef or chicken sausage (halal)
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Divide pizza dough into 2 equal portions and roll each into an 8-inch circle.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  4. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on half of each dough circle.
  5. Spoon cheese mixture over the sauce, then add cooked meat.
  6. Fold dough over filling to form a half-moon shape and seal edges by crimping with a fork.
  7. Brush tops with beaten egg and lightly drizzle with olive oil.
  8. Cut small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly and serve with warm marinara sauce.
