Description

Butter Chicken is a rich and creamy Indian curry made with tender marinated chicken simmered in a buttery tomato-based sauce infused with warm spices.


Ingredients

  • 700 g boneless chicken, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
  2. Add chicken to the marinade, mix well, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil and 1 tbsp butter in a pan over medium heat.
  4. Add marinated chicken and cook until lightly browned; remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add remaining butter and sauté onions until golden.
  6. Stir in cumin and coriander, then add tomato puree and simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Return chicken to the pan and cook for another 8–10 minutes.
  8. Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 5 minutes.
  9. Adjust seasoning and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with naan or basmati rice.
  • Adjust chili powder for desired spice level.
  • Marinating longer enhances flavor.
