Description
Butter Chicken is a rich and creamy Indian curry made with tender marinated chicken simmered in a buttery tomato-based sauce infused with warm spices.
Ingredients
- 700 g boneless chicken, cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
- Add chicken to the marinade, mix well, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat oil and 1 tbsp butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Add marinated chicken and cook until lightly browned; remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add remaining butter and sauté onions until golden.
- Stir in cumin and coriander, then add tomato puree and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Return chicken to the pan and cook for another 8–10 minutes.
- Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Adjust seasoning and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Serve with naan or basmati rice.
- Adjust chili powder for desired spice level.
- Marinating longer enhances flavor.
