Description

Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze is a flaky, buttery Danish-style pastry filled with sweet cinnamon apples and baked until golden, then drizzled with a smooth vanilla glaze. This elegant braided pastry is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, cornstarch, and butter. Cook for 5–7 minutes until softened and thickened. Let cool.
  3. Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Spoon apple filling down the center of the pastry, leaving space on the sides.
  5. Cut slits along both sides of the pastry and fold strips over the filling in a crisscross pattern.
  6. Brush with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Cool completely.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle glaze over cooled kringle before serving.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples provide a nice tart contrast.
  • Allow filling to cool before assembling to prevent soggy pastry.
  • Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Can be reheated briefly in the oven to crisp pastry.
