Description

Amish hamburger steak bake is a hearty comfort-food casserole made with seasoned ground beef patties, tender potatoes, and onions baked together in a creamy, savory sauce.


Ingredients

  • 700 g ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 kg potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (300 g) cream of mushroom soup
  • 240 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Form the mixture into oval steak-shaped patties.
  4. Heat oil or butter in a skillet and lightly brown the patties on both sides.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions in the baking dish.
  6. Place the browned hamburger steaks on top.
  7. Cover with remaining potatoes and onions.
  8. Whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk, then pour evenly over the casserole.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking.
  • You can substitute cream of chicken soup if preferred.
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
