Description
Amish hamburger steak bake is a hearty comfort-food casserole made with seasoned ground beef patties, tender potatoes, and onions baked together in a creamy, savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 700 g ground beef
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 kg potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 can (300 g) cream of mushroom soup
- 240 ml milk
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and grease a baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Form the mixture into oval steak-shaped patties.
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet and lightly brown the patties on both sides.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions in the baking dish.
- Place the browned hamburger steaks on top.
- Cover with remaining potatoes and onions.
- Whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk, then pour evenly over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking.
- You can substitute cream of chicken soup if preferred.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
